    This course provides a two-day foundation programme in the principles of physical activity and exercise in the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease. This course includes both a theoretical and practical component aiming to equip health professionals with sound knowledge and understanding as well as key practical delivery skills required to meet the core standards and national guidelines for delivery of group, one-to-one and home activity programmes.  This course is for any health professional advising on or delivering physical activity and exercise to cardiac patients in either a primary or secondary health care setting.

    This two-day course extends the core knowledge, understanding and skills gained in Part 1 to clinical reasoning for the inclusion of the higher risk and complex cardiac patient, such as heart failure, arrhythmias, ICDs, NOCAD, SCAD, PAD and ACHD. Additional subjects include safety of high intensity sports and activities, resistance training, water-based activity and difficult clinical scenarios. This course is for experienced cardiac rehabilitation practitioners who are challenged with the higher risk complex patient. It is strongly advised that participants should have completed Part 1 or the BACPR Exercise Instructors Qualification, as the content is directly linked.

    This one-day / two-morning course aims to increase the awareness of the impact of physical activity and exercise in heart failure through developing an evidence-based understanding of the relationship between risk assessment, baseline functional assessment and exercise prescription.  Physiological mechanisms and devices are also explored.

  • Friday 7th February 2025 [in person, Central YMCA London]

    This course aims to increase awareness, understanding and confidence in prescribing resistance training (RT) to patients with cardiovascular disease.  This one-day face to face course (with online pre-course learning) is aimed at all health and exercise professionals involved in the delivery of exercise to cardiovascular populations wishing to implement effective RT into their programmes.  The online pre-course content is an opportunity to review the theory and principles of resistance training. The in person practical component aims to increase the knowledge and skills of effective resistance training, determining initial workload, progression, adaptation and optimising safety.

    This one-day / two-morning course aims to empower health care and exercise professionals to confidently enable people with type 2 diabetes to exercise safely and effectively. The course includes background knowledge of type 2 diabetes management, understanding of exercise physiology relating to diabetes and increasing awareness of managing acute episodes and complications affecting exercise prescription.

  • Saturday 1st February 2025 [in person, Atrium Health Coventry]

    This course is aimed at all health and exercise professionals working in clinical populations to ensure effective monitoring of exercise intensity and aims to increase the knowledge and skills in implementing a number of functional capacity tests used in population groups such as cardiac and respiratory (e.g. Incremental Shuttle Walk Test, 6-Minute Walk Test, Chester Step Test, Cycle Ergometry) plus practically apply the results to exercise prescription. The course includes pre-recorded content and in person learning.

  • Saturday 30th November 2024 [in person, Atrium Health Coventry]

    This one-day course is aimed at all health and exercise professionals who are working with clinical populations and interested in implementing low-volume, high intensity interval training (HIIT) into their practice. This in person, practical workshop aims to increase the knowledge and skills of practitioners around the implementation of the 10 x 1 min low-volume HIIT model, determining an initial workload, progression challenges, utility of different training modalities, and dispelling any concerns regarding safety.

  • Thursday 16th & Thursday 30th January 2025 [online, two mornings]*

    This two-morning online course goes beyond the introductory level with emphasis on the practical element of health behaviour change (HBC) and is delivered in a safe, positive non-judgemental way. The module is aimed at all health and exercise professionals who work in cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation. The module aims to take the mystery out of HBC, sharing ideas and a chance to practice skills to overcome common barriers in implementing HBC.

  • Friday 7th & Friday 14th February 2025 [online, required to attend two mornings]*

    This course is designed for all health professionals working within cardiovascular rehabilitation.  Over two mornings, this online course will focus on recognition, assessment and management of emotional distress, such as anxiety and depression.  The course will provide practitioners with strategies to use in a rehabilitation setting, to support patients in managing their psychosocial health.

    This one-day course aims to increase knowledge and understanding of the core principles of the cardio-protective diet, as well as providing the most current information on additional nutritional approaches that may be appropriate for primary and secondary prevention of CVD. Using seminars and case studies, and with the support of expert tutors, the course teaches delegates how to develop evidence-based nutritional care plans that align with the most current clinical guidance from NICE and the ESC. Delegates also have the opportunity to develop practical skills in anthropometry and dietary assessment methods, and are introduced to the complexities of nutritional science and the nuances that often hinder patients making positive changes.   This is a no-frills, no-nonsense course that cuts through the nutrition madness, and provide knowledge and practical skills to support patients to achieve better health.
